(New Orleans, La.) Loyola University New Orleans head volleyball coach Angela Franke announced the signings of Julianna Lydon, Keyanna Gayden, Breanna Stevenson, Elizabeth Scioneaux, Raven Daniels, Gabrielle Henry and Hannah Kraker to the 2014 recruiting class.
Julianna Lydon played volleyball at Branham High School under head coach Heather Cooper. The San Jose, Calif., native was named First Team All-League in her junior and senior seasons. Her squad won the League Championship title during her freshman and junior campaigns. Lydon earned the Most Valuable Player title as a senior and was selected as the Blossom Valley Athletic League “Honor the Game” Conference Women’s Volleyball Representative. In 2013-14, Lydon recorded a 30.6 kill percentage, 92 total blocks, 45 aces and 393 digs.
“Julianna will provide our front row with a tremendous amount of skill and energy,” said head coach Angela Franke. “She will make her presence known on both sides of the court with her offensive edge and her dominance at the net.”
Keyanna Gayden graduated from Calera High School where she played volleyball under head coach Amanda Lewis. She was named Scholar Athlete of the Week as a senior and made the Grapple in the Grove All-Tournament Team in varsity basketball. She received Alabama High School Athletic Association Most Valuable Player honors in basketball. Gayden is a member of the National Honor Society and the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America.
“I am excited to be adding Keyanna Gayden to the roster,” said coach Franke. “Her tremendous athleticism is going to be a great addition to the team. She is explosive both on offense and defense, and will bring an immense amount of energy to our game.”
Breanna Stevenson will be joining the Pack as a junior after two seasons at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. Stevenson was a defensive specialist for the Golden Eagles and played in 26 total matches in the 2013 season, starting in three of them. Prior to her time at Pine Bluff, Breanna was a setter/defensive specialist at Desoto High School in Desoto, Texas. Stevenson was named to the Class 5A All-District second team in 2011. She maintained a 4.17 GPA at Desoto High and was a member of the National Society of High School Scholars and the United States Achievement Academy.
“Breanna Stevenson is going to bring depth to the team with both experience and skill,” said coach Franke. “Transferring in as a Junior from another four year institution she will be able to take on a leadership role immediately.”
Elizabeth Scioneaux played volleyball at East St. John High School in Reserve, Louisiana under head coach Ronnie Smith. Scioneaux was also a star track athlete for East St. John. She was an outside hitter/defensive specialist for the Wildcats volleyball team and was named the team’s MVP her junior and senior seasons. She was also named an Honorable Mention Class 5A All-District performer in 2013. Elizabeth finished her high school studies with a 3.5 GPA and was named an All-State Academic Athlete.
“Elizabeth Scioneaux is coming in with a lot of energy and determination,” said coach Franke. “With her quickness and athletic ability, I expect to see her become an impact player.”
Raven Daniels comes to Loyola after graduating from Lakeshore High School in Lacombe, Louisiana. Daniels played volleyball for head coach Jennifer Herbert and helped lead Lakeshore to the Louisiana Division II state semifinals her senior season. Raven was named to the All-District second team in volleyball and also earned All-District Honorable Mention honors in basketball.
“Raven Daniels comes in with a diverse set of talents as a player. She has the ability to play multiple positions and will definitely be a contributor to our success this season,” said coach Franke.
Gabrielle Henry participated in Loyola track and field as a sprinter in 2014. She joins the volleyball team having been named Athlete of the Month in November 2012 with her varsity volleyball squad at Edna Karr High School. Henry was also named to the District 7-II All-District volleyball team in 2012 and received the Taylor Award for outstanding academics.
“Gabrielle Henry is a hard worker and coming in ready to work and learn.” said coach Franke. “I am excited to see her growth throughout this upcoming season as a player.”
Hannah Kraker was a defensive specialist for coach Ryan Wallace at St. Agnes Academy in Memphis, Tennessee. Kraker helped St. Agnes win the TSAA District II Class AA state championship in 2013. She graduated Summa Cum Laude and was a member of Mu Alpha Theta and the Beta Club. Kraker will play libero and defensive specialist for the Wolfpack.
“Hannah Kraker is joining the team coming from a championship winning program,” said coach Franke. “She knows what it takes and what it means to be successful on the court and off the
court and I anticipate her brining that winning attitude and determination to our
