New Orleans, La. – The Loyola University New Orleans volleyball team continues their home stand this weekend with conference opponents, No. 6 Lee University on Friday and Faulkner University on Saturday. Both matches are scheduled for 7pm in The Den.
Now 3-4 in conference and 11-4 overall, Loyola has improved from 15th to No. 10 in the NAIA in service aces per game (2.230). Senior setter Samantha Worsham paves the way in service aces, placing her at No. 21 in the nation with 0.600 per game, and ranks 22nd with 36 total services aces. Worsham entered this year with 169 service aces over her past three seasons. Combined with her totals for the season thus far, she has moved into 4th place among the career ace leaders for Loyola with 205.
Loyola’s attack is led by freshman outside hitter Eva Allen who has recorded 127 kills. Allen is currently averaging 2.7 per game, while junior middle blocker Sabrina Stansberry is right behind her with 125 kills (2.6 per game). Last week, Stansberry tabbed a career-high 25 kills in a match at Belhaven University, eclipsing her previous high (18) against Belhaven on Oct. 7th of last year. As a team, the Wolf Pack ranks 14th in the NAIA in hitting percentage (0.268) and 18th in kills per game (13.340).
Ranking 6th in the NAIA Top 25 Coaches Poll, the Flames are 14-6 and 6-1 in SSAC play. They rank 10th in the nation in total assists (949) and hitting percentage (0.276). Lee also ranks 12th in total kills (1043) and kills per game (13.720). Their attack is led by Marija Zelenovic who has 190 kills. She is aided by Camil Martinez who has notched 24 service aces and 788 assists, ranking 5th in the NAIA for assists and 7th in assists per game (19.940). Paula Martins ranks seventh in the country in hitting percentage (0.388). Libby Peigen has recorded 323 digs and Nicole Sumida has blocked 54 round out the leaders.
Faulkner is 1-5 in conference and 5-9 overall. The Eagles rank 44th in the NAIA in service aces per game (1.870) with Kelsey Bell leading the team with 17 total service aces. Taylor Dollison is averaging 2.7 kills per game (103 total) and has notched 33 blocks at the net.
