Loyola volleyball defeated by No. 6 Lee University

New Orleans, La. – The Loyola University New Orleans women’s volleyball team fell to No. 6 Lee University 25-18, 26-24, and 25-14 in a Southern States Athletic Conference match Friday night in The Den.

For Lee (16-6, 8-1 SSAC), Irene Ojukwu led the attack with 12 kills and added eight digs. Paula Marins had a hitting percent of .556 with 11 kills in the match. Marija Zelenovic had 10 kills to round out the leaders. Defensively, Libby Peigen had 18 digs and Nicole Sumida had 5.5 blocks.

The Pack’s offense was led by freshman outside hitter Katie Hamilton who recorded 10 kills, while senior Kailey Tuthill and freshman Kailtin Mohr each tabbed five. Defensively, sophomore libero Becca Burnett notched 15 digs. Samantha Worsham, Tuthill, and Mohr each had two blocks on the night. Loyola dipped to 3-5 in conference play and 11-5 overall.

Loyola returns to action against Faulkner University on Saturday at 7 p.m. in The Den. The Eagles are 1-5 in conference and 5-9 overall. They rank 44th in the NAIA in service aces per game (1.870) with Kelsey Bell leading the team with 17 total service aces. Taylor Dollison is averaging 2.7 kills per game (103 total) and has notched 33 blocks at the net.
