NEW ORLEANS, La. - Loyola extended their season best win streak to eight matches with a pair of victories Friday in the opening day of the Hampton Inn Wolfpack Invitational in The Den.
In the nightcap, the Wolfpack easily dispatched Huston-Tillotson (1-17) in three games. Loyola (12-5) took the first set against HTU 25-14, followed by a dominating 25-7 second set, and then clinched it in the third with a 25-21 score.
Freshman Kara Nishimuta led the charge for the Wolfpack, securing six kills in the match. Freshman Tiffany Walker and sophomore Shelby Plant also contributed with four kills each.
Freshman Rachael Lopez spearheaded the explosive offense in assists with 16, followed closely by co-captain Samantha Worsham with 10. Worsham also served six service aces in the first two sets. Defensively, co-captain Amanda Oldani led the 'Pack with 16 digs. Altogether, 17 players left their mark on the match and produced the eighth consecutive
In the opening match of the tournament, Loyola defeated Belhaven (16-7) in five sets 27-25, 25-22, 18-25, 21-25, 15-8. Sabrina Stansberry led the 'Pack attack with 18 kills and Becca Burnett had a career high 12 digs to lead the defense.
For Belhaven, Taylor Williams finished with a game high 23 kills to lead the Blazers.
Loyola looks to continue the streak tomorrow when they take on St. Thomas at 10 a.m., Missouri Baptist at 4 p.m., and Texas A&M-Kingsville directly after at 6 p.m.
