Houston, Texas- The Loyola University New Orleans volleyball team extended their six match win streak to start the season with a pair of victories in the St. Thomas Tournament on Friday. The wins equaled the best start to a season since 2008 when the Wolf Pack also ran off six straight victories.
In the first match, Kaitlin Mohr led the ‘Pack attack with a team high nine kills as Loyola defeated Calumet College of St. Joseph 25-10, 25-11, 25-17. It was the second time this season the Wolf Pack has downed CCSJ.. Eva Allen added eight and Katie Hamilton contributed seven kills to round out the leaders. Defensively, Sabrina Stansberry had 4.5 blocks and Becca Burnett had 19 digs.
In the nightcap, Burnett again was stellar from the back row with 16 digs as the Wolf Pack beat Trinity International 25-23, 25-19, 25-23. Lauren Brand had seven kills and Kailey Tuthill, Hamilton, and Allen each had six kills to lead the Loyola attack. Tuthill also aided in the ‘Pack defense with 14 digs. Allen led with a team high three service aces.
Loyola (6-0) has yet to drop a set in the season. They have now won 18 consecutive sets. Tourney action concludes on Saturday for Loyola with an 11 a.m. tilt against Montana Tech and a match with St. Catherine at 5 p.m.
