MOBILE, Ala. – The Loyola volleyball team (4-5, 1-3 SSAC) fell, 3-0, to Spring Hill Tuesday night in the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center. The Wolfpack dropped three sets 11-25, 18-25, and 17-25.
Junior outside hitter Kailey Tuthill led the ‘Pack in kills with 7 while also posting 9 digs. Freshman standout Lauren Brand followed close behind with 6 kills. Junior co-captain Samantha Worsham had 14 digs and 21 assists.
Loyola got off to a rocky start, dropping the first set 11-25. LU opened the set staying close with number 24 ranked Spring Hill before the Badgers went on an 11-2 run stretching the lead to 13-5. Spring Hill held the ‘Pack to a negative hitting percentage as the Badgers posted four blocks in the set.
In the second set, the Wolfpack again remained close with the Badgers keeping the score within one point. Despite the better play by Loyola, Spring Hill continued to fire on all ends producing 13 kills. Even though the Wolfpack garnered 14 kills in the second set, costly errors would hold them to a .122 hitting percentage giving the edge to Spring Hill.
The third set ended with the Badgers posting a 25-17 lead after hitting .216 in the set and posting an impressive 6 blocks. Spring Hill would hold Loyola to yet another negative hitting percentage with the overall match percentage averaging to .008.
Spring Hill’s Yiting Cau posted a match-high 16 kills. Cassandra Marchand-Stewart and Megan Haber also added 7 kills each. Haber would also add four solo blocks and four assisted blocks, and Taryn Nash produced 28 assists for the Badgers.
Loyola returns to SSAC play on Saturday Sept. 24 with a road match against the Faulkner Eagles. First serve is scheduled for 5 p.m.
