Mobile, Al. – The Loyola University New Orleans volleyball team fell to SSAC-undefeated Spring Hill University, after a close five sets, on Tuesday night, 25-23, 25-16, 21-25, 22-25 and 15-10.
Loyola (15-7 overall, 5-7 in SSAC) lost the first two games, before stepping up and taking the next two, forcing a fifth game. Spring Hill (23-3 overall, 12-0 in SSAC) continues a 16-match win streak and is receiving votes in the NAIA Top 25 Coaches’ Poll as the only undefeated team in the conference.
Three freshmen paved the way for Loyola’s attack, including Katie Hamilton who recorded a season-high 19 kills. Eva Allen had 12 kills and Kailtin Mohr added 10. Senior setter Samantha Worsham aided the offense with 50 assists. Junior middle blocker Sabrina Stansberry tabbed six blocks at the net, while sophomore libero Becca Burnett notched 24 digs in the back court.
The Badgers offense was led by Megan Haber who had 23 kills and Sha Sha Buchanan who tabbed 21. Both players also led the defense up front, recording five blocks each. Taryn Nash helped the offense with 55 assists and Maddie LaForge had three service aces. Sami Maurer defended the back court with 28 digs, while Mallory Raulerson added 16 and Meredith Donald notched 14.
Loyola will compete in four matches this upcoming weekend in the Hampton Inn Wolf Pack Invitational. On Friday night they will face cross-town rival Xavier University, for the second time this season, at 6pm in The Den. The Pack will then take on the University of Arkansas Monticello, with a start time slated for 8pm.
