Loyola volleyball goes 1-1 on first day of St. Thomas Tournament

(New Orleans, La.) The Loyola University of New Orleans volleyball team went 1-1 in the first day of action at the University of St. Thomas Tournament on Friday, August 30.

Opening the day, the Wolf Pack fell to Xavier University in three sets 25-13, 25-16, 25-16. Freshman Wren Overesch tallied nine kills and senior Sabrina Stansberry added eight. Sophomore libero Kaylin Storey led the defense with 13 digs, while freshman Katie Philippi chipped in with 10.

The Pack ended the day on a high note with a 3-0 victory over Columbia College. Sophomore Eva Allen recorded 10 kills. Stansberry and Overesch turned in another stellar performance with nine kills each. Overesch led the defense with 17 digs while fellow freshman Daniela Leal posted 13. Overesch and Leal combined for five service aces.

Loyola (2-4) will conclude tournament action tomorrow with matchups versus Montana Tech at 12 p.m. and tournament host University of St. Thomas at 6:00 p.m.
