NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Loyola women’s volleyball (5-5, 2-3) team returns home Tuesday night to take on the University of Mobile (7-8, 1-4). Opening serve is slated for 7 p.m. in The DEN.
The Wolfpack enter the week coming off a huge conference win defeating Faulkner University (Ala.) on the road in five sets (21-25, 22-25, 25-23, 25-17, 15-13). It was the first five set victory of the season for Loyola.
With senior leader Gina Gill out with an injury, junior Kailey Tuthill led the attack with 14 kills. Sophomore Mia Frugé also stepped up recorded a career-high 12 kills. Sophomore Sabrina Stansberry and freshman Lauren Brand added to the mix producing eight kills each while senior Ashley England also garnered seven. On the defensive end, it was once again senior co-captain Amanda Oldani tying her season-high and leading the ‘Pack with 24 digs.
“The win Saturday night was big for a few reasons,” said head coach Tommy Harold. “First, every conference match is significant. Secondly we were able to get the 5-set monkey off our back, and lastly we were playing for the first time without Gina Gill who has been such a large part of our team for the last four years.”
Mobile is also coming off a big win where the Rams downed Dillard at home 3-0 (25-21, 25-16, 25-18). Disah Kolassiba paced the Lady Rams with 14 kills on a .722 hitting percentage, while Kiara Gay added 9 kills and 9 digs. Sara Van Wert chipped in with 8 kills on a .313 hitting percentage and added 4 aces. Melody Tenney led the setters with 22 assists.
“The match Tuesday night will be another stiff conference test against an always physical Ram team,” Harold added. “We will have to come out early and set the tone to reach our standards.”
Tuesday’s match marks the 15th meeting between the two institutions. The two teams split a pair of matches last season with the ‘Pack winning 3-0 in New Orleans on Nov. 2 and the Rams winning 3-0 on Sept. 28 in Mobile.
