(New Orleans, La.) The Loyola University New Orleans volleyball team resumes conference action this week as they look to earn their first home SSAC victory of the season when they take on Belhaven University on Tuesday, Oct. 1 at 7 p.m in The Den.
The Wolf Pack (3-13, 1-4 SSAC) expects to recover from recent losses to two top conference competitors, Southern Wesleyan (5-0 SSAC) and Emmanuel College (4-1 SSAC). Sophomore Eva Allen fueled the Loyola offense over the weekend, racking up 24 kills, six service aces and tying her career high three aces in each match. Allen leads the team in both categories. Junior Becca Burnett guided the defense and earned the top spot on the team in digs with 170 on the year. Burnett also matched her service ace career high with two versus Emmanuel.
The Blazers (5-13, 0-6 SSAC) remain in the hunt for their first SSAC win following similar defeats by the Warriors and the Lions on Friday and Saturday. Senior Brittany Ammons controls the attack for Belhaven with 134 total kills. This season, senior Katherine Owen has tallied 295 digs and 21 aces to secure the top spot on her squad in both statistics.
In honor of October 1 being National Vegetarian Day, Loyola will hold a vegetarian hot dog eating contest at intermission of the match using veggie dogs provided by local foodie hot spot Dat Dog.
