New Orleans, La. – The Loyola University New Orleans volleyball team had 10 players recognized with Southern States Athletic Conferences awards including First and Second Teams, All-freshmen team, All-academic, and Champions of Character.
Senior setter Samantha Worsham was named to the SSAC First Team. The Chicago-native ranked No. 6 in total service aces (70), 24th in service aces per game (0.510), and 26th in total assists (1245) for the NAIA this season. She was the only player to be ranked nationally in more than one category. Over her four year career she collected 239 service aces, moving her into second place on Loyola’s all-time career service aces list, as well as service aces in a single season. Worsham’s 1245 assists this year landed her in Loyola’s No. 5 spot for assist leaders in a season and 3rd for career assists. Her name can also be found on the season assist leaders list at No. 4 with 1287 assists in 2010 and No. 8 with 1196 in 2009.
Senior outside hitter Kailey Tuthill and junior middle blocker Sabrina Stansberry were both tabbed to the SSAC Second Team. Tuthill, recorded 249 kills this season with a career-high 39 total service aces and 36 blocks. The Colorado-native was also named SSAC Player of the Week for the last week of regular season play. Stansberry, a Baton Rouge-native, led the Pack in total blocks (95) with a (0.8) average. She also tabbed 291 kills and 26 service aces.
Tuthill, Lauren Brand, Kara Nishimuto, Katie Broadbent, and Tiffany Walker were each selected to the All-Academic Team. Walker was also recognized with the Champions of Character Award.
Selected to the SSAC All-Freshmen Team were Katie Hamilton, Eva Allen, and Kaitlin Mohr. Allen led the Pack in kills (278) averaging 2.8 per game with 13 service aces in 101 sets played. Mohr saw action in 120 sets this season, notching 170 kills. Hamilton recorded 36 service aces and 269 kills over 113 sets.
