Loyola volleyball rallies from slow start, defeats Faulkner

(New Orleans, La.) Despite dropping the first set, the Loyola University New Orleans volleyball team rallied to defeat Faulkner University 15-25, 25-20, 25-16, 25-11 in the conference opener for the Wolf Pack.

Loyola improved to 3-8 on the season and 1-0 in SSAC play with the win over the Eagles (4-6, 0-1 SSAC). Senior Sabrina Stansberry and junior Lauren Brand shared the match high in kills with nine apiece. Brand went 9-for-22 for a .318 hitting percentage on the night. Sophomore Eva Allen and senior Shelby Plant racked up seven each to steady the offense. Junior Becca Burnett turned in a solid all-around performance with 31 digs and four assists.

Faulkner senior Shelby Woods and junior Brittnay Renfroe tallied eight kills each for the Eagles. Junior libero Lindsey Ortner led the defense with 23 digs.

The Wolf Pack will jump right into their next conference match as they face the Golden Tigers of Brenau University in Gainesville, Ga. tomorrow at Noon CDT.
