(New Orleans, La.) The Loyola University New Orleans volleyball team held close to the Bethel Wildcats through three sets, but struggled to secure crucial points as they fell 21-25, 20-25, 23-25 in The Den.
Sophomore Eva Allen earned a total of ten kills for the Pack (4-14, 2-5 SSAC), five coming in the first set, and the rest following in sets two and three. Allen served up back to back aces in the first to add to the team’s five total service aces. Junior Lauren Brand and senior Katie Broadbent aided the offense with seven kills apiece. Broadbent went seven for 15, earning a .333 hitting percentage.
The Pack held an early lead in the third set, but couldn’t hold off an unwavering Wildcats sqaud. Offensive leader sophomore Anagila Silva tallied 13 kills and one ace for the Wildcats (6-13, 3-4 SSAC). Sophomore Melissa Foote and junior Vera Popovic both added nine. The team combined for three aces and 58 digs.
Loyola returns to The Den to host Martin Methodist College tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. The Wolf Pack will hold a volleyball clinic for members of local girl scout troops immediately following the match.
