MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Loyola University New Orleans women’s volleyball team earned their second conference victory of the season defeating Faulkner 3-2 at Tine Davis Gymnasium Saturday evening.
The ‘Pack dropped the first two sets (21-25, 22-25), but battled back, claiming the third (25-23) and fourth (25-17) set.
Coach Tommy Harold emphasized closing out matches this week in practice and his club responded claiming the fifth set 15-13. The win moves the Wolfpack back to .500 with an overall record of 5-5. Loyola is now 2-3 in the SSAC.
“We’re excited we were able to win a five set match on the road,” said coach Harold. “We still need to establish an identity as a team and hopefully we progressed towards that tonight.”
Two Loyola outside hitters recorded double figure kills and tied their season bests on their way to victory. Junior Kailey Tuthill tallied 14, followed closely by freshman O’Neal McMullan with 12.
Also adding their names to the kill list were freshman Lauren Brand with eight, sophomore Sabrina Stansberry with eight, and senior Ashley England with seven.
Co-captains Samantha Worsham and Amanda Oldani both impacted tonight’s game as well. Worsham tallied 44 assists, while also contributing 14 digs and one kill. In addition, senior digs leader Amanda Oldani added 24 more digs to her season’s resume.
The ‘Pack returns to action Tuesday night when they clash with divisional opponent University of Mobile inside the friendly confines of The Den at 7 p.m.
