New Orleans, La. – The Loyola University New Orleans volleyball team swept Belhaven University in three sets 25-11, 25-15, and 25-22 in The Den on Tuesday for Senior Night.
Loyola, now 7-7 in conference, secured their bid to the Southern States Athletic Conference Tournament Nov. 8-10th. The Pack improved to 25-7 overall, extending their win-streak to 10 matches for the first time since 2002 when they won 12 in a row in that season. This victory marks only the second time in the last eight matches in which the two teams did not go to five sets when facing each other.
Seniors Kailey Tuthill and Samantha Worsham led Loyola’s attack in their last regular season home match. Outside hitter Tuthill tabbed 12 kills and added three service aces. Setter Worsham also helped the offense with 40 assists and two service aces of her own. Defensively for the Pack, freshman Kaylin Storey had 13 digs in the backcourt and Tuthill notched 10. Junior middle blocker Sabrina Stansberry recorded three blocks at the net.
Belhaven, now 9-4 in conference play and 25-7 overall, was led by Taylor Williams who recorded nine kills and Erin Bradley who had 22 assists. Katherine Owen tabbed 16 digs for the Lady Blazers defense.
On Thursday Loyola will face cross-town rival Dillard University for the Pack’s final match of the regular season before gearing up for the SSAC Tournament. Match time is slated for 7pm.
