NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Loyola University New Orleans volleyball team continued their winning ways on Thursday night, defeating Faulkner University 3-0 (25-16, 26-24, 25-18) at The Den.

Loyola jumped on Faulkner (12-18, 1-5) early, scoring four straight points to take a 9-3 lead. The Lady Eagles managed to cut the deficit in half on an ace at 11-8, but then the ‘Pack used another 4-0 spurt to push the lead to 18-10 after a kill by Gill. The Wolfpack grabbed their largest lead at 24-14 on a Tuthill ace, then a Mullinix kill ended game one, 25-16.

Faulkner used a 5-0 run in set two to grab an early 8-4 lead. Following a Wolfpack error which gave the Lady Eagles their largest lead at 15-10, the ‘Pack responded with a 6-0 run. Stansberry finished the run with an ace to give LU the lead, and then the teams battled back and forth, playing to a 20-20 tie. Faulkner reached set point by scoring four of the next five points before a kill by Katie Broadbent gave Loyola the serve. A block evened the game at 24, and then LU completed the late comeback with kills from Tuthill and Gill to win 26-24.

In the final set, the ‘Pack doubled up Faulkner early, 8-4, and would not let the Lady Eagles come any closer. A kill by Gill gave LU a ten-point cushion at 17-7, and then Stansberry delivered the kill of the night, slamming an attack off the head of a Faulkner defender. Faulkner put together a late run to make the count 21-17, but Mullinix would notch the 25-16 win for Loyola with a kill.

The Wolfpack, winners of seven straight, are back in action on Tuesday, October 26 when they travel to Mobile, Ala. to face Spring Hill College at 7 p.m. The Lady Badgers are currently on a 16-match winning streak, with their last loss coming to LU at The Den.
