Loyola volleyball to take on Tougaloo, Xavier in mid-week tilts

New Orleans, La. - Loyola University New Orleans volleyball team will take on Tougaloo College on Tuesday to conclude the home stand, before heading across town to face Xavier University on Wednesday. Both matches will take place at 7 p.m. with Tuesday’s match in The Den and Wednesday’s in The Barn on Xavier’s campus.

Loyola is now 12-5 overall and 4-5 in SSAC play, winning three out of their last four matches. In the NAIA, Loyola ranks 16th in hitting percentage (0.261) and 21st in kills per game (13.190). Freshman outside hitter Eva Allen leads the way with 133 kills. Senior setter Samantha Worsham paces the team in service aces (36) and ranks 32nd nationally in service aces per game, while the team ranks 18th with 2.150 aces per game.

Defensively, the Pack comes in at No. 20 in digs per game (17.690). Sophomore libero Becca Burnett holds down the back court, averaging 4.1 digs per game and 273 total digs on the season. Junior middle blocker Sabrina Stansberry leads the defense at the net with 38 recorded blocks.

Tougaloo currently leads the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference (north) with a 6-0 record and 15-6 overall. Middle blocker Briana Murphy leads this defensively dominant team with 132 recorded blocks, ranking her No. 2 in the NAIA in total blocks and blocks per game (2.030). The team also ranks 2nd in blocks per game (3.600) and 4th in total blocks (241). The Bulldogs place 5th in the nation in digs per game (19.360), with libero Dayana Souza averaging 4.7 digs per game for the team lead with 310.

Tuesday night marks Greek Night in The Den with the Greek organization with the most members in attendance will win a free smoothie from Smoothie King. There will also be pre-match social in Res Quad at 12:30 p.m. where students can enjoy free food, music and participate in contests for prizes.

Wednesday night, Loyola will travel to cross-town rival Xavier University at The Barn. The Golden Nuggets are currently 5-0 in the GCAC (south) and 11-4 overall. Taylor Reuther leads the nation in service aces per game (0.900) and 10th in total service aces (43). As a team they rank 5th in the NAIA in service aces per game (2.350). Reuther also leads the attack with 152 kills, averaging 3.2 per game. Xavier is led defensively by Moira Kirk who’s recorded 43 blocks, and Darian Harris has 128 digs.
