NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Loyola University New Orleans volleyball team extended their winning streak to six matches on Tuesday night, defeating the SUNO Lady Knights 3-0 (25-16, 25-15, 25-15) at The Castle.
Loyola (20-11) had little trouble with SUNO (6-9) in the victory as they took down the Lady Knights for the fifth straight time in the series. With the win, head coach Tommy Harold has now guided the Wolfpack to at least 20 wins in each of his six full seasons.
Gina Gill led the Wolfpack with 18 kills while Kailey Tuthill chipped in with seven. Samantha Worsham handed out 34 assists and Amanda Oldani was tops with 15 digs.
In set one, LU went up 9-5 on a kill by Tuthill which capped a 4-0 run. Following a timeout, the ‘Pack pushed the lead to 21-14 on an assisted block by Gill and Sabrina Stansberry. Worsham would end the set on a kill at 25-16.
SUNO led early in game two until an ace by Worsham gave Loyola an 8-7 lead. A block by LU forced a timeout, then Gill delivered two kills to make the count 15-9. Down the stretch, Tuthill scored a pair of kills before an attack error gave Loyola the 25-15 win.
In the third set, Alex Blitzer served two aces to put Loyola up 7-1. The Lady Knights fought back to come within one, but the Maroon and Gold went back up 14-10 on a kill by Gill. With the score 22-15, Loyola got two more aces from Blitzer before Gill sealed the win with her 18th kill.
Loyola returns to action on Thursday when they host Faulkner University at The Den. The SSAC match is scheduled for 7 p.m.
