Loyola volleyball travels to Belhaven University

New Orleans, La. – Loyola University New Orleans volleyball team will travel to Jackson, Miss. to face conference opponent Belhaven University at 7pm on Tuesday.

The Pack is currently 9-3 overall and 1-3 in conference play, falling to the University of Mobile and Brenau University after an 8-0 start to the 2012 season. Loyola then picked up a conference win against Truett-McConnell before losing a thrilling match to conference-rival Spring Hill College in five sets last week in the Pack’s home opener. The Badgers are receiving votes in the latest NAIA poll.

In the NAIA, Loyola ranks 7th as a team in service aces per game (2.400) and 8th in digs per game (18.740). Senior setter Samantha Worsham ranks 12th in the nation in service aces per game (0.660), while ranking 27th in total service aces (31).

Leading the attack are freshmen outside hitters Eva Allen and Katie Hamilton. Allen leads the team in kills (95) and Hamilton ranks No. 44 in the NAIA in hitting percentage (0.325). Defensively, sophomore libero Becca Burnett has notched 201 digs, while junior middle blocker Sabrina Stansberry has tallied 28 blocks.

Belhaven is 3-1 in conference play and 11-3 overall, recording wins conference wins against Brenau University and Truett-McConnell College. This past weekend the Blazers fell to SSAC opponent Spring Hill in four games, while tabbing a win against the University of Mobile in four sets. Belhaven ranks 24th in the division in hitting percentage (0.250) and 29th in digs per game (16.980). Samantha O’Malley leads the Blazers in hitting percentage (0.346) while ranking 27th in the NAIA, and Erin Bradley ranks 38th in assists per game (9.650).

Loyola will then return home for a five-match home stand at The Den beginning on Friday at 7pm with conference opponent College of Coastal Georgia. Brewton-Parker College travels to the Big Easy on Saturday for a at 2pm tilt. The Wolf Pack will then face No. 6 Lee University on October 5th, followed by Faulkner University on the 6th, both matches are slated for 7pm. Finally Loyola will play Tougaloo College at 7pm on the 9th to finish off the home stand.
