New Orleans, La. – Loyola University New Orleans volleyball team defeated Tougaloo College on Tuesday night, 25-5, 25-15, and 25-18 on Greek Night at The Den.
Loyola (13-5) was led by freshmen outside hitters Lauren Brand who notched 10 kills and Eva Allen who had seven. The attack was assisted by senior setter Sam Worsham who recorded 26 assists on the night. Defensively, junior middle blocker Shelby Plant tabbed three blocks and sophomore libero Becca Burnett had nine digs.
Tougaloo (15-7) was led by Jana Williams and Marcella Oliveira who each recorded six kills, while Mariana Candelot tabbed 12 assists for the Lady Bulldogs’ offense. Defensively, Candelot notched eight digs in the back court and Williams had seven.
Wednesday night, Loyola will travel to cross-town rival Xavier University at The Barn. The Golden Nuggets are currently 5-0 in the GCAC (south) and 11-4 overall. Taylor Reuther leads the nation in service aces per game (0.900) and 10th in total service aces (43). As a team they rank 5th in the NAIA in service aces per game (2.350). Reuther also leads the attack with 152 kills, averaging 3.2 per game. Xavier is led defensively by Moira Kirk who’s recorded 43 blocks, and Darian Harris has 128 digs.
