NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Loyola women’s volleyball team tamed the Mobile Lady Rams 3-2 before a raucous crowd in The DEN Tuesday night. Loyola dropped an intense first set 29-31 but regained their composure taking the second set 25-20. The Wolfpack stumbled in the third set falling 15-25, but came back and finished the match strong in the final two sets 25-23 and 17-15.
“It was another tough night in the SSAC,” said head coach Tommy Harold. “The girls fought really hard. We are still trying to find our identity as a team, and we still need to clean things up. I like that we are fighting hard and closing it out in crunch time.”
The ‘Pack had three players garner double-digits in kills. Freshmen Lauren Brand and O’Neal McMullan stepped up with a combination of 27 kills. Brand garnered a team-high 14 kills to help Loyola edge past Mobile. McMullan racked up 13 while junior Kailey Tuthill added 11. Defensively, senior co-captain Amanda Oldani generated 16 digs.
Mobile’s Kiara Gay had a match-high 15 kills while also adding 15 digs. Following closely behind Gay was freshman outside hitter Alison Kenney adding 13 kills.
Loyola is now 6-5 overall and 3-3 in conference. Mobile drops to 7-9 overall and 1-5 in conference. Next up for the ‘Pack, it will be another hard fought SSAC Cross Over in Gainsville, Ga.
