Loyola women’s basketball defeats Johnson & Wales

Miami, Fla- The Loyola University New Orleans women’s basketball team traveled to Miami on Friday for their season opener and defeated Johnson and Wales University 92-75. The ‘Pack received double-digit performances from four different players to earn their win against the Wildcats.

Senior Megan Berner led the ‘Pack tonight scoring a career high of 29 points and grabbing 9 rebounds. Berner also converted 7-8 of her free throws. Junior Jasmine Brewer , sophomore Janeicia Neely, and freshman Shayne Charles rounded out the top scorers of the night, Brewer with 16 points and 4 rebounds, Neely with 12 points, and Charles in her collegiate debut with 17 points and 6 rebounds.

Freshmen Cassidy Eymard and Katie Youngblood also made their college career debut tonight with Eymard shooting 2-3 at the line, scoring a total of 5 points and Youngblood grabbing 5 rebounds. Tyler Thompson, who also appeared in her first contest for the Wolf Pack, scored five points. Loyola (1-0) shot 49.18 % from the field for the evening.

Myia Russell led Johnson and Wales (0-6) with 23 points.

Loyola will stay in Miami to compete against St. Thomas on Saturday before returning to The Den for their home opener against SSAC foe Emmanuel on November 16 at 5:30 p.m.
