(New Orleans, La.) The Loyola University New Orleans women’s basketball team notched their second consecutive victory with a 76-66 win over Louisiana College in The Den Tuesday night.

The Wolf Pack (5-3) challenged the Wildcats (1-1) from long range as Louisiana College went 12 for 56 from the three point line. The Pack took advantage of their own shots behind the arch as their largest lead came through a three-point shot made by junior Megan Whittaker, putting the score at 47-37 in favor of Loyola early in the second half. The Wildcats quickly cut the Loyola lead back down to single digits on the next possession as junior Neka Jones answered with a three to make it 47-40 with 15:10 to play.

Loyola regained a 10-point lead following a field goal from freshman Meghan Temple at the 4:28 mark, but the Wildcats closed in once again from three point range with the ball in the hands of junior Karylon Thornton. Freshman Kylah Jones completed a three-point play at the free throw line for the Pack to extend the Loyola lead at 72-62 with two minutes to go. Thornton nailed another three with just seconds left, but it wasn’t enough as the Wolf Pack held a comfortable lead for the last two minutes of play, ending the game with a 76-66 victory.

Despite the Wildcats collecting 15 offensive boards in the first half, they narrowly outrebounded the Pack 29 to 26 in the first 20 minutes of play. A slew of turnovers from both teams made it difficult for either offense to find rhythm in the first. The Pack closed out the first half of the game leading by just two points, entering the locker room with a 37-35 advantage. Junior Janeicia Neely paced the Pack in the first half with 11 points, three rebounds and three assists. Jones steadied the first half effort for the Wildcats, tallying 12 points, nine coming from three-point range.

Neely finished the night with a team-high 18 points and three assists. She was a perfect six for six from the free throw line. Neely collected six boards, being outrebounded only by senior Jasmine Brewer who pulled down eight. Jones notched 11 points, four rebounds and two assists on the evening, while Temple and junior Megan Whittaker contributed eight points apiece. Brewer, junior Rebekah Greer and junior Callie McNally each chipped in with six.

Jones recorded 21 points, three rebounds and three assists for the Wildcats. Junior Danisha Allison earned a double double, tallying 14 points and 11 rebounds. Thornton added 11 points and a team-high five assists.

The Wolf Pack will travel to local opponent Dillard University for their next contest on Saturday, Nov. 30 with tipoff set for 5 p.m.
