The Loyola University New Orleans women’s basketball team is in the hunt for four straight wins as they are scheduled to host local rival No. 15 Xavier University on Tuesday, Dec. 3 at 7 p.m. in The Den.
The Wolf Pack (6-3) took down Dillard University on Saturday evening in a 77-62 victory. Senior Jasmine Brewer and freshman Meghan Temple paced the Pack with 14 points apiece, a season and career high for Temple. Temple led the rebounding effort with nine boards and notched an additional season and career best with two assists. Brewer and junior Janeicia Neely collected seven rebounds each. Brewer is averaging 7.56 rebounds per contest. Neely tallied eight points and a team-leading six assists versus the Bleu Devils. She currently ranks first for the Pack in points per game (15.56), assists per game (4.33) and steals (17). Neely sits ninth in Division I in total assists with 39.
Xavier (4-5) fell to the University of Louisiana-Lafayette 54-62 on Monday. Senior Paige Gauthier steadies the Gold Nuggets, notching 11.89 points and 2.56 steals a night. Senior Danielle Tucker has recorded 46 rebounds this season while sophomore Whitney Gathright has tabbed a team-best 28 assists.
This season, Loyola has already faced three ranked opponents. They took two out of three, defeating #24 Lyon College and #20 Southern Polytechnic State University. The last time the Wolf Pack strung together four victories was between Jan. 26, 2012 and Feb. 4, 2012 with triumphs over William Carey University, AUM, the University of Mobile and Spring Hill College.
