Loyola opened the night with a promising first half, bouncing back from an early Xavier lead in the first 20 minutes of play. The Gold Nuggets widened the gap by five points with the help of a two-point bucket by senior Whitney Gaston-Loyd, but the Pack tied it up at 18 after junior Megan Whittaker nailed a three-point shot with 8:03 left in the half. Xavier responded with a field goal from senior Chelsea Broussard, but Neely earned the Pack their first lead of the game with a basket behind the arch on the next scoring play.
