NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Loyola University New Orleans women’s basketball team (10-1) will play their first home game of 2012 Monday, Jan. 2, against the University of New Orleans (0-13). Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. CT in The DEN.
Monday’s game marks the fifth time the two teams have faced each other. The series is tied 2-2 with Loyola taking the last two games last season.
The ‘Pack has a had a two-week break from game action, but will be looking to continue its hot streak after defeating No. 17 Xavier, 67-64. Loyola was led in scoring by senior guard Keiva Council who put down 30 points. She also added nine rebounds and four steals. Sophomore Jasmine Brewer contributed 12 points.
The Privateers are coming off a 63-51 loss to Auburn-Montgomery. In Friday’s contest, UNO was led in scoring by junior Keri Thomas, who added 20 points, and junior Mirjam Sipos, who scored 18. As a team, the Privateers only shot 28.1 percent (16-57) from the floor in the game, and only managed just 11.8 percent (2-17) from the three-point line. Despite the loss, UNO had 10 steals.
