Loyola women’s basketball readies for the Rams

(New Orleans, La.) The Loyola University New Orleans women’s basketball team will host the University of Mobile on Thursday, Feb. 13 at 5:30 p.m. in The Den. Both teams are receiving votes in the latest NAIA Division I Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Top 25 Poll.

The Wolf Pack (15-9, 9-5 SSAC) evened the season series with #21 Martin Methodist College on Saturday with a 57-54 win on the road. Senior Jasmine Brewer bucketed 16 points and collected seven rebounds and two steals to lead Loyola to victory. She paces her squad in average points (14.33), rebounds (7.92) and steals (1.71) per game. Brewer sits fifth in Division I in field goal percentage (55.6) and 23rd in offensive rebounds per game (3.62). She was recently named to the 2014 Allstate WBCA Good Works Team. Junior Janeicia Neely contributed 15 points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals. She leads the Pack in assists, averaging 4.25 per contest. Freshman Meghan Temple commands the blocking effort with 18 blocks in her debut season.

The Rams (16-6, 10-4 SSAC) rolled to a 69-58 victory over Spring Hill College on Saturday. Senior Deonica McCormick notched a game-high 28 points in the win. She is averaging 21.23 points, 3.18 assists, 2.36 steals and 0.91 blocks a night. McCormick ranks sixth in Division I in points per game and eighth in total scoring (467). Sophomore Alicia Curry steadies the boards, pulling down 5.96 rebounds per game.

Loyola defeated Mobile 64-45 earlier this season. They have won nine of their last 12 contests.

The Loyola University New Orleans Department of Athletics and Wellness will be hosting their Annual Cancer Awareness Game benefiting the Play 4Kay charity and the Coaches vs. Cancer Program when the Wolf Pack basketball teams take on Mobile on Thursday. T-shirts commemorating the event will be on sale for $10 at Thursday’s games. To benefit the Coaches vs. Cancer program, coaches will wear tennis shoes to the basketball games.
