Loyola women’s basketball ready for rematch with #21 Martin Methodist

(New Orleans, La.) The Loyola University New Orleans women’s basketball team will take on #21 Martin Methodist College for the second time this season on Saturday, Feb. 8 at 2 p.m. in the Robert E. Curry Christian Life Center.

The Wolf Pack (14-9, 8-5 SSAC) dropped their second consecutive contest when they fell to Belhaven University 69-65 last evening in The Den. This marks just the second time this season Loyola has recorded multiple losses in a row. They have been victorious in eight of their last 11 matchups. Additionally, the Pack received four votes in the most recent NAIA Division I Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Top 25 Poll.

Freshman Kylah Jones has been the leading scorer for two consecutive games for the Pack. She posted 18 points, three rebounds and four steals against the Blazers. Senior Jasmine Brewer and junior Megan Whittaker combined for 23 points and 11 boards. Freshman Meghan Temple collected a team-best 10 rebounds and posted one block. Brewer paces the Pack in average points (14.36), rebounds (8.00) and steals (1.77) per game. Junior Janeicia Neely is averaging 4.46 assists a night. Temple commands the Loyola blocking effort with 18 on the season.

Loyola ranks 11th in Division I in total three-point field goals made (161), 15th in three-point field goal percentage (34.4), 16th in total rebound offense (981), 18th in three-point field goals made per game (7.00), 19th in scoring margin (10.087) and 20th in total scoring offense (1,696) and defensive rebounds per game (28.87).

The RedHawks (17-5, 10-3 SSAC) are coming off a 71-59 loss to #15 Bethel. They’ve defeated seven of their last nine opponents. Junior Kelsey Nowlin steadies the Martin Methodist offense, posting an average 12.73 points per game. The Wildcats held her to just 10 points last night while senior Tyffani Fenwick notched a team-best 19 points. Senior Rachel Brown collected nine boards and secures the glass, recording 8.20 rebounds per game. Freshman Janasia Williams leads the RedHawks in assists (2.09), steals (1.68) and blocks (0.32) per contest.

Earlier this season, the Wolf Pack fell to the ranked RedHawks 73-70 in The Den. Martin Methodist leads the all-time series versus Loyola, 2-0.
