NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Loyola University New Orleans women’s basketball program released their 2010-11 schedule, featuring 14 home contests and four games against teams in the NAIA Preseason Top 25.
Loyola, winners of three of the last four GCAC Championships, will start their first season in the Southern States Athletic Conference. Joining the Wolfpack in the SSAC West Division will be Faulkner and Auburn-Montgomery along with four former conference opponents in Belhaven, Mobile, Spring Hill, and William Carey.
“We are very excited about this upcoming season,” said head coach Kellie Kennedy. “We have a strong nucleus of returners who will all be able to contribute as well as a group of freshmen who will play immediately. Our non-conference schedule is very challenging, and we are confident that it will prepare us for the tough opponents in the SSAC.”
LU opens up their season at Dillard University on Nov. 2 before hosting Our Lady of the Lake on Nov. 5. Loyola will spend the rest of the month primarily on the road, playing five of six games away from The Den. The Wolfpack finish the month in Missouri with a game against No. 23 Columbia College on the 27th.
In December, Coach Kennedy’s squad will start the month by hosting two ranked opponents. On Dec. 3, LU faces No. 7 Lee University before squaring off on the 4th against No. 21 Southern Polytechnic State. Both schools are in the SSAC Eastern Division.
Dec. 11 marks the first date of a home-and-home series with the University of New Orleans as Loyola travels to the Lakefront. The ‘Pack will also take on another city-rival on Jan. 15 when they head to The Barn to face No. 20 Xavier University.
The Wolfpack kicks off their 12-game SSAC slate on Jan. 13 against Jesuit-rival Spring Hill College. The SSAC Conference Tournament, which starts in March, will be held in Rome, Ga.
