(New Orleans, La.) The Loyola University New Orleans women’s basketball team will head to Mobile, Ala. on Thursday, Jan. 23 for a 5:30 p.m. tilt versus the #23 University of Mobile.
The Wolf Pack (11-7, 5-3 SSAC) is 3-2 against ranked opponents this season. Loyola dropped a 70-73 decision to #19 Martin Methodist on Saturday, concluding a five-game win streak for the Pack.
Despite the loss, two Loyola freshmen turned in career-high scoring performances, while senior Jasmine Brewer earned her fifth double double of the season. Kylah Jones paced the Pack with 17 points and Caroline Gonzalez followed closely with 14 points. Both were perfect from the free throw line. Brewer added 10 points and pulled down a season-high 15 rebounds. Junior Janeicia Neely joined them in double digits with 10 points and commanded the passing effort with five assists. Brewer remains the team leader in rebounds (8.06) and steals (1.72) per game. Neely is averaging 13.94 points per contest and has 72 assists on the season.
The Rams (13-3, 7-1 SSAC) have defeated their last six opponents, their most recent win being a four-point victory over #16 Bethel University. Senior Deonica McCormick commands her squad in points per game (22.38), assists per game (3.50), steals per game (2.38) and has notched 14 blocks on the year. McCormick recorded 32 points in Mobile’s victory over the Wildcats. Sophomore Alicia Curry protects the glass, securing 5.88 rebounds a night.
Loyola is 8-4 versus Mobile under head coach Kellie Kennedy. The Wolf Pack is looking to overcome their fourth ranked opponent of the season.
