Loyola women’s basketball striving for five straight wins

(New Orleans, La.) The Loyola University New Orleans women’s basketball team looks to collect their fifth straight win in Blue Mountain, Miss. when they visit Blue Mountain College on Thursday, Jan. 16 for a 5:30 p.m. tilt in Wilfred C. Tyler Gymnasium.

The Wolf Pack (10-6, 4-2 SSAC) has been hot versus conference opponents, going two for two in SSAC competition to kick off 2014, including a victory over #22 Emmanuel College. Loyola topped Southern Wesleyan University 96-84 last Saturday to boost its conference record to 4-2.

The Pack was led by freshman Meghan Temple who tallied a career-high 18 points and added five rebounds, one block and one steal. Temple went eight for nine from the field and sunk two of three from the free throw line.

The starting lineup for Loyola turned in a solid all-around performance. Senior Jasmine Brewer earned her fourth double double of the season, recording 12 points and pulling down 11 boards. She is averaging a team-leading 8.06 rebounds and 1.81 steals per contest. Juniors Megan Whittaker and Janeicia Neely put up double figures, scoring 16 and 11 points respectively. Neely paces her squad in points per game (14.31) and assists per game (4.19). Freshman Kylah Jones and junior Callie McNally combined for 12 points and six rebounds.

The Toppers (6-6, 3-3 SSAC) are riding a three-game win streak, their most recent triumph being a 65-52 victory over the College of Coastal Georgia. Junior Anna Brooke Page steadies her squad with 15.75 points and 0.50 blocks per game. Leading the team in rebounds, assists and steals per contest is Blue Mountain sophomore Kati Prince.

With a victory over Blue Mountain, Loyola will tie the all-time series at 1-1 and secure their first win over the Toppers since Blue Mountain joined the SSAC. Additionally, with a Loyola win and a Bethel University (11-5, 4-2 SSAC) loss, the Wolf Pack can surpass the #10 ranked Bethel Wildcats in the SSAC West rankings.
