(New Orleans, La.) Loyola University New Orleans head golf coach Lisa Tinkler announced the signing of Sarah-Anne Smurlick to the signing class of 2013. Smurlick is the first signee for the women’s golf team in the 2013 class.
Smurlick is a resident of Toronto, Ontario, Canada who intends on studying Journalism in the School of Mass Communications. She comes to Loyola after studying at Mohawk College in Hamilton, Ontario and Ryerson University in Toronto.
Smurlick has won the York District Women's Amateur Tournament. She is a member of the York District Amateur Team which won the Team event at the Ontario Amateur Championship. The Hamilton, Ontario native moved up to the fifth Ranked Mid-Amateur Women by the Ontario Order of Merit in 2012. She has broken par on four different courses to date and aims to get her score in the 60’s while a member of the Pack.
Smurlick has played a number of sports including basketball, squash, curling and golf. She credits Laurie Rybski of the Ladies' Golf Club of Toronto and Tim McCutcheon for preparing her for golf at the collegiate level. Both Rybski and McCutcheon are members of the PGA of Canada.
“I am very excited to add Sarah-Anne to our women’s program. She has proven herself as an amateur in Canada and will bring a lot of that experience to our golf program. We currently have a very inexperienced team and Sarah-Anne can come in and change that immediately,” said coach Tinkler.
Smurlick is the first signee to the women’s class, but will join Keith Burkard, Cody Leis, Hunter Crochet, and Kyle Szyhowski who have signed on the men’s side. The women’s team opened competition in the 2013 season. The team will play in their last tournament of the season at the SSAC Championship in Montgomery, Alabama on April 22nd and 23rd.
