Loyola women’s golf ends day one of Nationals in the middle of the pack

(Lincoln, Neb.) The Loyola University New Orleans women’s golf team sits in 17th place overall following Tuesday’s first round of the 2014 NAIA Women’s Golf National Championship at the Wilderness Ridge Golf Club in Lincoln, Neb.

The Wolf Pack shot a combined 329 on the day to finish 41 over par, completing the first of four rounds in the tournament. Oklahoma City University holds first place with a 302 mark, shooting 14 over.

Freshman Julchen Narwark paced Loyola with a career-best score of 79 after the first round, seven strokes over the par 72. She is tied for 35th individually over the 143 person pool. Freshman Sarah-Anne Smurlick finished in 67th with an 83. Sophomore Alexis Vega is tied with Smurlick in 67th, while freshman Alexis Hazard trails them both by one stroke with an 84, sitting in 84th place. Freshman Megan Keck rounded out the Wolf Pack line up with a score of 91.

Second round action of the 20th annual 72-hole event will commence tomorrow morning at 7:30 a.m.
