(Lincoln, Neb.) The Loyola University New Orleans women’s golf team did not advance to the final round of the NAIA Women’s Golf National Championships Tournament at Wilderness Ridge Golf Club. The Wolf Pack earned a team score of 333 in Thursday’s third round for a 20th place finish.
Loyola improved upon Wednesday’s round of 344, but was short of an opening round 329 on Tuesday. The Wolf Pack finished the three rounds with a team score of 1006 which was +142 for the tournament.
Sarah-Anne Smurlick led Loyola with a total score of 247 for the tournament. She tied for 66th for the Championships and shot an 85 on Thursday. Alexis Hazard tallied her best round of the tournament with a 79 in the third round to rank tied for 77th with a three day total of 250. Julchen Narward was 86th with a total of 253 and 84 in the round. Alexis Vega had an 85 on Thursday and a three round total of 256 which tied for 101st. Megan Keck rounded out the field for Loyola with a 85 and 270 for the tourney. She finished tied for 120th. Narwark, Hazard, and Smurlick each had individual rounds of 79 during the championship tourney which was tops for the Wolf Pack .
The top 17 teams advanced to the final round slated for Friday. Savannah College of Art and Design and Oklahoma City are currently tied for the lead with team scores of 914.
Thursday’s round marked the end of a historic season for the Wolf Pack as Loyola qualified for the NAIA National Tournament in just the second season for the program. The team earned the right to play in the Championships by finishing second in the Southern States Athletic Conference Tournament.
