(Hattiesburg, Miss.) The Loyola University New Orleans women’s golf team placed second at the SSAC Women’s Showcase hosted by William Carey University. In doing so, the Wolf Pack defeated seven conference opponents.
All five participating golfers for the Wolf Pack finished in the top 20 of the tournament individually. Loyola was the only team participating in the tournament to achieve such a feat. Freshman Alexis Hazard tied for fourth overall, shooting an 80 on both days of tournament play. She earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team for her performance.
“Every day is a different day in golf,” said Hazard. “You never play the same round twice, even with the same score. Every shot is different. You have to shape it differently. Even though I shot the same score, I played completely differently both days.”
Freshman Julchen Narwark scored an 84 at the end of each round for a combined total of 168, placing her in a tie for ninth. Junior Sarah-Anne Smurlick ended tournament action in a tie for 12th with a 169. Freshmen Megan Keck and Alexis Vega finished two strokes apart, placing 16th and 19th respectively.
“This being our second tournament ever, coming in second is quite an accomplishment,” Hazard added. “Playing as well as we did on those fast greens, I was proud to be a member of the Wolf Pack.”
The SSAC Women’s Showcase concludes fall tournament action for the women’s golf team.
