(Montgomery, Ala.) The Loyola University New Orleans women’s golf team finished in second place following day one of the Southern States Athletic Conference Women’s Golf Championship this afternoon at the Lagoon Park Golf Club. Four Wolf Pack women’s golfers finished in the top 20 individually.
As a team, the Pack recorded a 328 to conclude the day in second place, just three strokes behind the first place College of Coastal Georgia. Loyola sits three strokes ahead of Spring Hill College and Bethel University whose squads are tied for third at 331. The Wolf Pack defeated the No. 7 College of Coastal Georgia earlier this season at the Emmanuel Spring Invitational, earning their first tournament win in program history.
Sophomore Alexis Vega guided the Wolf Pack to a second place team finish on day one, shooting an 80 and tying for third individually. Freshman Sarah-Anne Smurlick turned in a first round score of 82, shooting 41 on both the front and back nine. Smurlick is knotted in a three-way tie for ninth.
Freshmen Alexis Hazard and Julchen Narwark are part of a five-way tie for 12th, scoring 83 on the day. Hazard improved on the back nine by three strokes to score within the top 20. Loyola freshman Megan Keck rounds out the Wolf Pack with an 88.
The final round of the SSAC Championship will begin tomorrow morning at 8:30 a.m.
