(New Orleans, La.) The Loyola University New Orleans women’s basketball team received 145 votes in the Southern States Athletic Conference preseason rankings, pegging them at second place in the SSAC West division entering the 2013-14 season.
“I’m confident in our team and the progress we’ve made over the last few weeks,” said head coach Kellie Kennedy. “If we continue to improve and put forth the necessary effort, we will be a strong competitor and a contender for the top spot in our division.”
The Wolf Pack returns four starters, including three-time SSAC All-Conference standout senior Jasmine Brewer. A talented incoming freshman class paired with the addition of University of Louisiana-Lafayette transfer junior Megan Whittaker boosts the depth of this season’s squad.
Faulkner University and Southern Polytechnic State University (SPSU) have tied at number one in the conference rankings after both receiving 205 overall points, however, the small margin of votes separating each team reflects the strength of this year’s competition. Loyola’s votes earned them a sixth place spot overall in the SSAC.
The Pack will open their fourth season in the SSAC this week, starting with an exhibition game at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette on Wednesday, Oct. 30 at 7 p.m. Loyola will jump into regular season action on Saturday, Nov. 2 when they host Lyon College at The Den with tip-off scheduled for 2 p.m.
