Loyola women’s hoops readies for final road game of regular season

(New Orleans, La.) The Loyola University New Orleans women’s basketball team will close their regular season road slate with a trip to Belhaven University on Thursday, Feb. 27 for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff.

The Wolf Pack (19-9, 13-5 SSAC) upset #19 Bethel University on Saturday in an overtime thriller in The Den. Senior Jasmine Brewer commanded her squad with 18 points and 11 rebounds en route to her seventh double-double of the season. She shot six for 11 from the field, one for one from three-point range and five for six from the line. She recently surpassed Brooke Surette to rank fifth on Loyola’s all-time individual career scoring list (1,662 points) and ascended above Christine Mainguy to sit second on the Wolf Pack all-time individual career rebounding list (871 rebounds) and eighth on the all-time individual career steals list (179 steals). Brewer paces the pack, averaging 13.96 points, 7.82 rebounds and 1.75 steals per contest.

Junior Megan Whittaker contributed 17 points and three rebounds to the Wolf Pack win over the Wildcats. Junior Janeicia Neely tabbed 12 points and a team-best seven assists. She leads Loyola in average assists per game (4.43).

The Blazers (13-15, 7-11 SSAC) fell to William Carey, 66-51 on Saturday. Freshman Ariel Wilson led the offense with 18 points and four assists. She anchors the scoring effort for the Blazers, putting up an average 19.17 points per game. Senior Erika LeFlore turned in 11 points and collected six rebounds. She is averaging a team-leading 9.25 boards a night. Junior Kenya Wright paces the passing effort, dishing out 2.39 assists per contest.

Earlier this month, Loyola fell to Belhaven at home, 69-65. However, Loyola leads the all-time series, 19-17. The Wolf Pack currently sits in a four-way tie with #19 Bethel, the University of Mobile and Martin Methodist College for first place in the SSAC West division. They are currently riding a five-game win streak and have been victorious in 13 of their last 16 matchups. The Pack received a season-high 29 votes in the most recent NAIA Division I Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Top 25 Poll.
