(New Orleans, La.) The Loyola University New Orleans women’s basketball team returns to the road on Saturday, Feb. 15 for a trip to Hattiesburg, Miss. where they will square off with William Carey University at 5 p.m. in Clinton Gymnasium.
The Wolf Pack (16-9, 10-5 SSAC) stole the season series versus the University of Mobile on Thursday with a 67-59 victory over the Rams. Junior Megan Whittaker and sophomore Shayne Charles paced the Pack with 11 points each, converting a combined 6-for-11 from three-point range. Senior Jasmine Brewer notched 10 points and shared the team rebounding lead with freshman Meghan Temple, collecting eight boards apiece. Brewer commands her squad in average points per game (14.16), rebounds per game (7.92) and steals per game (1.68). She was recently named to the 2014 Allstate WBCA Good Works Team. Junior Janeicia Neely dished out six assists. She is averaging 4.32 assists per contest. Temple holds down the defense with 18 blocks on the season.
The Crusaders (7-12, 5-10 SSAC) had a three-game win streak snapped by Bethel in a 81-64 loss Thursday evening. Junior Ciera Sibley contributed 14 points for the Crusaders while senior Haleigh Arcement chipped in with 11. Arcement is averaging a team-leading 9.21 points a night. Sibley secures the glass, pulling down an average 6.53 rebounds per contest. Junior Tiffany Sims paces the Crusaders in average assists (2.41), steals (2.65) and blocks (0.29) per game.
Loyola defeated William Carey earlier this season, 61-44 to knot the all-time series at 18. With a win on Saturday, the Wolf Pack can regain the all-time advantage. The Pack is tied for second place in the SSAC West division rankings and received three votes in the most recent NAIA Division I Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Top 25 Poll. They have won 10 of their last 13 contests.
