Loyola women’s hoops suffers first setback at Brenau

GAINESVILLE, Ga. - The Loyola University New Orleans women’s basketball team lost their first game of the season, falling 64-59 against Brenau University on Friday evening at Brenau Gymnasium.

Loyola (4-1) held a one-point lead at the break, 29-28, over the undefeated Golden Tigers but were unable to hold on to stay perfect in the early season.

The Wolfpack was led by junior Keiva Council who poured in a game and season-high 19 points. Freshman Jasmine Brewer added eight points and six boards while senior Rachael Nolan finished with seven points.

Brenau (4-0), of the SSAC West, had three players score in double-figures led by Tatiana Khudiakova and Brittney Wiley with 12 points each. Raveen Crawford rounded out the leaders with 10 points and seven rebounds.

Loyola finished the night shooting 41.1 percent (23 of 56) from the field. Brenau shot 47.4 (27 of 57) and won the battle of the boards, 32-29. LU junior Amy Sprout had a game-high eight rebounds and added six points.

The ‘Pack had 14 assists for the game, led by sophomore Molly Emig with six, tying her season-high.

Loyola wraps up their Georgia road trip on Saturday against Truett-McConnell at 1:00 p.m.
