(New Orleans, La.) Paige Gauthier and Whitney Gaston-Loyd each had 12 points to lead Xavier University of Louisiana over Loyola University New Orleans 54-44 in women’s basketball Wednesday night in the Convocation Center on Xavier’s campus.
Jasmine Brewer led the Wolf Pack with a game high 16 points on 5 of 12 shooting from the field. She grabbed a team high seven rebounds, six on the defensive end. Rebekah Greer had 10 points and a team high four steals.
For Xavier (7-1), Gauthier and Gaston-Loyd were the only XU players in double figures. Gauthier was 4 of 8 on field goal attempts, including 2 of 5 from behind the arc. Gaston-Loyd missed only one attempt from the field (5 of 6). Taylor Hixon grabbed a game high eight rebounds. The Gold Nuggets are ranked 10th in the latest NAIA top 25 poll.
Xavier enjoyed a 39-32 rebounding advantage and held the Wolf Pack to 27.9% shooting from the field including 25.0% from distance. The Nuggets shot 35.1% from the field and 40.0% in three point attempts. Xavier outshot the Pack 72.7% to 64.3% from the free throw line.
Loyola (3-6) returns to action against another city rival on Saturday. They will face off against Dillard University with tip off in The Den slated for 2 p.m.
