The Loyola University New Orleans women’s basketball team defeated the Dillard University squad 72-49 Wednesday night at Dillard’s Battlefield Gymnasium.
Loyola jumped on their crosstown rivals early in the match by scoring 20 of the first 27 points, and didn’t let up throughout the contest.
Jasmine Brewer led four Wolf Pack players in double figures by tallying 19 points. The Wolf Pack also got 23 of their 29 bench points from the duo of Katie Youngblood and Callie McNally. Janeicia Neely orchestrated the Loyola attack by scoring 11 points and recording eight assists. Megen Berner led all rebounders with 10.
Dillard was led by Alena Evans who scored 21 points and pulled down seven rebounds. Shea Collins who scored 24 when Dillard beat Loyola earlier in the year put up 15 in the Bleu Devils defeat.
The Wolf Pack defense was stellar throughout the night only allowing 49 points on 29.8% shooting for Dillard. The Bleu Devils shot only 23% in the first half, the game was completely different than the first matchup between these two schools. Loyola shot only 7% in the second half of the previous game to lose a six point halftime lead. Loyola led 35-20 at halftime of this contest and never looked back.
Loyola returns to action with a conference tilt against Jesuit rival Spring Hill College on Saturday. Tip off in The Den is slated for 2 p.m.
