KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Loyola University New Orleans women’s basketball team recently received a top-25 vote in the latest NAIA Division I Basketball Coaches’ Top 25 Poll. This marks the second straight week LU has earned votes in the poll.
Loyola (12-5, 1-0 SSAC) currently sits at 35th in the NAIA. On Thursday, the Wolfpack picked up a victory at Jesuit rival Spring Hill (8-11), beating the Badgers in Mobile, 72-59. Keiva Council led the ’Pack with 19 points, while Jasmine Brewer, Amy Moody and Megan Berner also scored in double figures in the Wolfpack’s conference opener.
Two nights later, the ’Pack took on 17th-ranked Xavier University. Brewer notched her first-career double-double against the cross-town rival Gold Nuggets, as she put up 24 points and grabbed a career-high 11 rebounds, but it was not enough, as Xavier pulled away with a 77-52 win.
Three SSAC East opponents were included the poll. Lee University dropped a spot to No. 10, Southern Polytechnic State remained at No. 17, and Shorter University earned 45 votes, good for the No. 27 spot nationally.
The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences. The next Top 25 poll will be announced on Jan. 24.
