BATON ROUGE, La. – Keiva Council of Loyola University New Orleans earned the first state basketball player honors for her play in the month of November as selected Tuesday by a panel of Louisiana Sports Writers Association members. The selection was for all play in the moth of November through this past Sunday night. Beginning next week, the selections will be announced by the LSWA for top men’s and women’s players of the week.
The Houston, Texas native is currently the nation’s top scorer in the NAIA averaging 23.9 points per game. She is also coming off the best game of her collegiate basketball career scoring a school record 48 points against NCAA Division I opponent Northwestern State. It was Loyola’s first win against a NCAA DI school since 2004 when the Wolfpack defeated Southeastern (La.).
Council also ranks nationally in the NAIA in the top 50 in seven other categories: 5th in total scoring (167), 14th in defensive rebounds per game (6.6), 35th in total assists (28), 35th in assists per game (4.0), 41st in field goal percentage (0.508), 44th in total steals (18), and 50th in total rebounds per game (8.0).
