Hattiesburg, Miss. – Loyola University New Orleans women’s basketball players Trenese Smith and Keiva Council were named to the All-GCAC Team as voted by the coaches of the conference.
For Smith, a senior guard/forward out of LaPlace, it is the fourth straight year she has been named All-GCAC. She leads the conference in scoring this season at 17 points per game.
Smith has had a storied career at Loyola. She is currently the program’s all-time leading scorer at 2,419 points. Along with being Loyola’s top scorer, she holds several career, single season, and game records as well as tying a GCAC record with 10 made three-pointers in a single game.
Council, a sophomore guard from Houston, was named All-GCAC after being Loyola’s second best scorer at 12.4 points per game. Council also directed the Wolfpack offense, dishing out 3.9 assists per outing, ranking second in conference.
Council scored a career-best 29 points in a win over cross-town rival SUNO. In the game, Council teamed up with Smith for 52 points to lead a late comeback over the Lady Knights.
The All-GCAC duo will be in action tonight, March 5, with a GCAC Tournament semifinal match-up with LSU-Shreveport. Tip-off is slated for 7 P.M. at The Dock.
