NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Loyola University men’s (1-3) and women’s (2-3) tennis teams are set to take on cross-town rival Xavier University Saturday afternoon from the University of New Orleans Tennis Center. The Wolfpack men will take on the Gold Rush at 2 p.m. while the women are set to begin at 4 p.m.
Last weekend, both the men and women went 1-1 picking up wins against Baker University and falling to NCAA Division II opponent Delta State.
In the men’s win against Baker, Devon Belcher and Matt Farham solidly defeated Baker’s Zach Aldrich and Jordan Toothaker 8-3 in doubles play. In singles action, LU only dropped five games in 12 sets. Brian Peña and Farham both earned two set victories. Farham was also the deciding factor in the match as he earned the fifth win for the Wolfpack that sealed the deal.
On the women’s side, the ‘Pack took all three doubles matches. Loyola’s Megan deBaroncelli and Francis Bonnin defeated Baker’s Peyton Edmonds and Caitlin Metseff 8-6 as the no. 1 seed. Katie Beargie and Cristiana Krtalic won for the ‘Pack 8-3 as the no. 2 seed versus Baker’s Danielle Griggs and Avery Vogts. The dynamic duo played extremely well together, and they were very aggressive.
