(New Orleans, La.) Loyola University New Orleans (11-9, 5-5) returns home to play against Belhaven University (9-13, 5-5) in a crucial SSAC showdown at 4 p.m. on Saturday, January 26th at The Den. The two teams are tied for fourth place in the Western Division of the SSAC.
Loyola is coming off a loss to Faulkner University which ended a modest two game winning streak for the Wolf Pack. They now need to bounce back quickly if they hope to stay in contention in the SSAC. Robert Lovaglio led the Wolf Pack effort against Faulkner by scoring 16, while Mason Ibert came off the bench to lead Loyola with eight rebounds.
Robert Lovaglio leads the Wolf Pack in scoring this season with 21.6 points a night, which is good for second in the SSAC. McCall Tomeny is fifth in the conference in field goal percentage at 54.2%, while pulling down 6.9 rebounds a night, which is 10th in the conference. He is also the second leading scorer on the Wolf Pack with 14.7 points nightly.
Belhaven is led by Jordan Butts, whose average of 17.3 points a game registers as the fifth best in the SSAC. Deon Bedford and Curt Hall average 11.6 and 11.5 points respectively. Bedford is the team’s leading rebounder at 6.5 a game despite coming off the bench in nine of his 14 appearances.
The Blazers lost their last game to William Carey which was their third straight loss all in conference play. Jordan Butts scored 28 points in the losing effort. Prior to the 91-70 blowout loss to William Carey, Belhaven lost by one point to Auburn-Montgomery as AUM’s Quay Davis hit a three as time expired to provide the victory for the homestanding Warhawks.
