NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Loyola University New Orleans men’s basketball team defeated Dillard University 65-39 Monday night inside Dent Hall.
Tonight’s match marked the first road contest of the season for the Wolfpack. They move to 3-0 for the fourth consecutive year.
Robert Lovaglio was the leader for the ‘Pack this evening. The sophomore forward earned 14 points and grabbed four rebounds.
Corey Gray and Cameron Cates also delivered double-digit scoring performances for the Wolfpack. Gray scored 13 points, 10 in the second half, on 4-15 shooting from the field. Cates tallied 12 points and five rebounds.
In the first half, the Wolfpack secured a 6-4 lead at the 17 minute mark and never gave it up. The ‘Pack utilized a great defensive effort, forcing 14 turnovers in the half. Furthermore, the Bleu Devils were pressured the entire time, shooting just 29.2% from the field and were one for eight beyond the arc.
Loyola continued to disrupt Dillard’s offense in the second half, causing 11 more turnovers for a game total of 25. In addition too, Manuel Gandara registered his first points of the season in the second half, scoring four. The ‘Pack ended the game on a 12-5 run in the final ten minutes.
“I thought it was a real nice team effort. Everyone was able to contribute against a well coached, athletic, Dillard basketball team,” stated head coach Dr. Michael Giorlando. “The first half was tough, but we were able to separate in the second, and were fortunate enough to get a nice win.”
Cameron Hill and Terry Church paced the Bleu Devils offense. Church recorded 15 points on the night while Hill earned 11.
On Friday, the men’s team travels to Central, South Carolina in their first conference game of the season vs. Southern Wesleyan. The following day, the ‘Pack continue their road trip to Cleveland, Georgia to take on Truett-McConnell.
