NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Loyola University New Orleans men’s basketball team (6-4, 1-3) looks to rebound from losing two straight when they host Southern University New Orleans (2-3) Tuesday night inside The Den at 7 p.m.

The Wolfpack return to action after dropping conference matches to #12 Shorter and Emmanuel. Not only do they hope to get back on the winning track, but also get revenge on a SUNO squad that defeated the ‘Pack 74-72 on November 22 at The Castle.

In that game, Robert Lovaglio scored a season high 26 points. The sophomore forward also tallied eight rebounds, four assists, and went 10-17 from the field. Corey Gray also recorded double-digits with 14 points, and shot 6-11 from the floor and 2-6 from beyond the arc.

In addition, four players achieved double-digit points for SUNO. Merlin Walker recorded 19 points, Anthony Jackson with 15, and Kevin Dukes with 13. Finally, Clyde Moore recorded a double double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

“It’s going to be a physical battle. They’re a very athletic team who loves to rebound and go to the rim,” said Loyola head coach Dr. Michael Giorlando. “We have to get our minds right and prepare to go to battle for a complete 40 minutes.”

SUNO presents a challenging defensive front to the Wolfpack’s attack. The Knights are ranked 18th in turnover margin (3.80), 34th in 3-point field goal percentage defense (.293), and 49th in steals per game (8.4).

“Our team prepares well and understands what needs to be done, but now they need to get to the next level and sustain that competiveness,” continues Giorlando. “It’s a maturity thing, it’s more guys coming off the bench and producing solid minutes, and it’s the starters making the right decisions as well, so we can close out these tight games.”

Loyola is 13-22 against SUNO and 10-6 under Coach Giorlando. Furthermore, Corey Gray (1,009 points) is just eight points shy of surpassing Zach Tyson and moving to #23 on the all time career-scoring list.
