Houma, La. – The Loyola University New Orleans men’s basketball team fell to Nicholls State Friday night at the Houma-Terrebonne Civic Center in Houma, La. The Wolfpack loss the exhibition match 76-92.
The duo of Robert Lovaglio and Corey Gray continued to power the Wolfpack’s attack. Lovaglio scored 20 points on 5-13 shooting and 9-11 from the free throw line. Gray tallied 17 points, going 4-12 from the floor and 8-8 from the free throw line.
Nicholls St. took a 44-30 lead into half thanks to great team shot selection and execution. The Colonels shot 62% from the field and 44% from beyond the arc.
The opposition maintained their double-digit lead throughout most of the second half. Loyola briefly cut their lead down to eight around the 12-minute mark, eventually succumbing to the effective Colonels offense.
Loyola shot 39% from the field, 21% from beyond the arc, and 80% from the free throw line. The ‘Pack also outrebounded the Colonels 39-30.
The game counted as a regular season contest for Nicholls. Head coach J.P. Piper moves to 4-0 against the ‘Pack in his eight year career, while the Colonels move to 2-6 on the season.
Sophomore guard Bryan Hammond and freshman forward Lachlan Prest led the Colonels tonight. Hammond registered 20 points, six assists, and two steals. Prest tallied 18 points on 6-11 shooting and 6-10 from three-point range.
The ‘Pack return to action December 17 in The Den, when they take on Xavier at 4 p.m.
